MEGA BLOKS, DUPLO and LEGO: what fits together

Parents ask this more than anything else: will our big blocks click onto the other bricks in the toy box? Here is the honest answer.

Three different sizes

Our First Builders blocks are made for children from one year old, so they are the largest of the three. DUPLO bricks are smaller and aimed at slightly older toddlers. LEGO bricks are smaller again and meant for older children.

Because the blocks are different sizes, they are not designed to click together. A First Builders block may rest on another brand's brick, but it will not lock on the way it does with its own range.

What does fit

Which to choose for a toddler

Pick by the child, not the brand on the bin. For a one-year-old who is still learning to grip, bigger is easier and safer, which is why First Builders starts at 1+. As children get older and their fingers get nimbler, smaller bricks become a natural next step, and many families keep both in separate boxes.

Keeping a mixed toy box working
